Speaker digs hole deeper with Tea Party Movement
SUMMARY: Government leader angry with citizen action, film at eleven
Post by: Brodie

According to the Associated Press, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) describes tea party voters as the "astroturf" movement. She states that many of those voters have good intentions but that the Republican Party has hijacked the movement for its gain.

The Speaker knows that red meat comments like these are fodder for talking head programs, and that analysis doesn't often go beyond the comment's basic outrageousness. And of course she'll avoid providing any evidence to back her claim.

What may be going on here is the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives is doing her damnedest to distract the public from noticing that the Tea Party Movement seems unwilling to ally itself with Democratic Party candidates. If so, she would not want to answer embarrassing questions about that simple fact from curious voters.

It's possible that Ms. Pelosi is acknowledging the Tea Party Movement is in fact a force to reckon with, a political mover and shaker that can be neither controlled nor regulated. But of course she can't state as much because the left cannot acknowledge any alternative message, it's how their movement is wired. (That inflexibility is a
rarely exploited weakness) Her only recourse is to try to discredit the movement as much as possible. I suspect more "swastika" and "militia" comments, or "nuanced" revisions of same, will issue from her lips, chamber, and/or colleagues soon.

Her comments may also serve to mobilize left wing activist organizations, like "ACORN," Big Labor, ACLU, etc., against the Tea Party Movement. Watch for attempts to stir up violence, and legal action. They did it during the 2009 Town Hall Rebellion.
