Event Description

On the weekend of June 18th and 19th, Maryland Young Republicans will be hosting what is shaping up to be a comprehensive leadership conference.  What started out as an expanded Maryland YR’s convention and board meeting has turned into a “We the Young People” summit of leaders - young and senior - up and down the east coast and as far west as Ohio.  Beginning Friday evening with an ice breaker social event we’ll have a town-hall style meeting with a few VIP’s (local and national) speaking to an assembled crowd of Maryland's best and brightest along with our talented pool of Young Republicans and aspiring political leaders.

THE FOLLOWING IS A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE - SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Friday

Friday night’s forum will be centered around “youth issues” as they pertain to accomplishments, questions, and ideas to be exercised in the 2010 election cycle.  We'll also begin to seed ideas for modern campaign strategies towards a more thorough conversation on Saturday.

The social event and ice-breaker will be fun and make coming on Friday both enjoyable and informative.

4:00 pm Registration Opens

6:00 pm Ice-Breaker Meet & Greet

7:00 pm Youth Leadership Forum
opening words from MDGOP Chairman Audrey Scott

9:30 pm "We're the Life of the Party!" ... good times... STAY TUNED!!!

Saturday

Saturday will begin with an early breakfast and a speech by an accomplished Young Professional.  The program will then split between the Maryland Young Republicans board meeting and varied opportunities for registrants to collaborate, receive training, or meet candidates running for office.

Track 1) MYR Board Meeting

The meeting will be preceded by a speech from a prominent Maryland candidate.  After the introductory speech we’ll begin our annual board meeting which is fairly straight forward (approximately 2 hours).

Track 2) Political Networking

At the time of the board meeting we’ll have candidate meet and greets and hospitality suites for folks who’d rather do something else. This is a great opportunity for folks to join campaigns, share ideas, and or learn from others about campaign best practices.  Training will be provided by experienced mentors and accomplished political leaders.  More information about this will be forthcoming.

Lunch and "True Life" Social Networking

After the morning sessions we’ll break for lunch where we’ll have a national YR speak to us about the national happenings of the YRNF and do a fun-oriented auction/fundraiser.  We also plan to have someone from the Republican Party (or an elected official) speak to us about national politics and the latest Democrat resignations.

After lunch we’ll break for about 2 hours, and come back for a 4:30-5:30 cocktail hour and 5:30pm gala dinner.  At the dinner we'll hear from 2 or 3 VIP’s about the direction of the party and what we need to do to go forward.  A campaign kick-off spirit should drive the mood.  After the dinner there will be an hour to change and then we’re going to take buses to "somewhere awesome" to kick off the evening.  (Note: there will be optional events and activities for people to do during the break.)

In terms of the schedule, this is what we're currently looking at.

7:30 am Breakfast, Meet & Greets, Registration Opens.
8:00 am opening words from State Senator Andy Harris

9:00 am MYR Annual Board Meeting

*
Political Training Opportunities

11:00 am Maryland Candidates Forum

12:30 pm Lunch

2:30 pm New Media Discussion

3:00 pm Youth Leadership Forum
opening words from RNC eCampaigns Director, Todd Herman

4:30 pm Cocktail "Hour" Social (and a time to change for the Gala Dinner)

6:00 pm Gala Dinner (and awards) in Ocean City!

Sunday (Optional)

On Sunday we’ll have a bring your own breakfast/coffee get together to talk about lessons learned and what we plan to do campaign-wise in the next few months before September.  (Most people won’t stay around for this but it will give us an opportunity to speak with folks that came from out-of-state with later flights.  This will also be a great opportunity to connect with new volunteers and leaders that we met over the weekend.  A final benefit to this is that we can offer discounted rates to folks who got serious about "great times" and need to stay the night to go home Sunday.)

9:00 am / Location TBD - based on # of people planning to stay over

PS: If you would like to vote on convention matters during the MYR Board Meeting on Saturday morning, please make a point to join your local YR club.  We have chapters covering all but a few counties so there is room for everyone to participate.

FAQ's

Does the registration price include meals?  Yes.

Does the registration price include hotel/housing? Yes! Awesome, right?!

What kind of accomodations are we looking at?  Private rooms with the option of a personal bathroom for only $3 more!  Perfect for the ladies! ;-)

Is this only for Young Republicans? No. The event is being hosted, managed, and organized by Young Republicans but it's for all interested attendees. (Liberals need not apply.)

I'm not from Maryland, can I still come for regular registration costs? "Yes you can."

Does the "Republican Group Price" also include meals and housing?  Yes.  We want to give clubs the opportunity to sell registrations at a discounted price of $60 per person (or even at cost) as a service and benefit to their members.
